Let’s Explore STEAM at Wheatland Elementary School
The Educational Partnership Foundation Funds the “Let’s Explore STEAM” Initiative
Strathmore, AB- More than 400 students at Wheatland Elementary (preK-Grade 6) will be participating in the “Let’s Explore STEAM” Initiative with funding provided by The Educational Partnership Foundation, under the Foundation’s Innovation/Entrepreneurship category.
Teachers and volunteers from Wheatland Elementary School will create and supervise STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) Initiatives for students within their classrooms and their community of Strathmore. STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. Wheatland Elementary believes that students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process will be the innovators, educators, leaders, and learners now and in their future!
“STEAM Initiatives are important for students, as it offers learners the opportunity to wonder, critique, inquire, and innovate,” commented Principal Amy Van Vliet. “Wheatland Elementary School is thankful for the $500 grant from the Foundation to offset some of the additional costs associated with our ‘Let’s Explore STEAM’ Initiative.” Din Ladak, President and CEO of TEPF claims “TEPF is thrilled to support this innovative initiative! Wheatland Elementary is using natural imagination to inspire creativity and make learning fun for all students! How remarkable that they are creating a strong future for themselves and others through this STEAM project. Wow!”
Wheatland Elementary will be celebrating and sharing the work students accomplish during our ‘Let’s Explore STEAM’ Initiative during collaborative sharing opportunities with their peers, parents, teachers and community members. Sharing will also occur during Wheatland Elementary School’s parent information nights, in school publications, as well as on the Wheatland Elementary website and Facebook page.
