TEPF Presents a Grant to St. Dominic School

The Educational Partnership Foundation visited St. Dominic’s School on Thursday, June 29,2017, to present them with a $500-dollar grant for their Playground Pals Program!

This program involves, first hand, both Grade 5 and 6 students, but ultimately engages the whole school. It helps the students develop their collaboration, communication, conflict management and problem-solving skills. The Grade 5 and 6 students will develop and model these skills through engaging with students in younger grades and demonstrating to them appropriate social interaction.

Playground Pals in action: At recess and lunch trained Playground Pals will go outside wearing their identifiable vests and backpacks filled with engaging toys: bubbles, Frisbees, footballs etc., and they will try and engage with other students who may be playing alone or look like they are having trouble interacting with others.

The students in Grade 5 and 6 are “pals” as well as leaders in St. Dominic’s school and by partaking in this program they are setting an example for the younger grades. With TEPF’s $500 grant, as other students become leaders of the school, this program will be able to continue year to year and give the other students the opportunity to set a positive example for the upcoming leaders.
