TEPF Presents a Grant to Springbank Middle School
The Educational Partnership Foundation Awards SMS Student Initiative
The Educational Partnership Foundation has chosen to support SMS’s outdoor classroom initiative. This project will change the landscape of our front lawn, adapting the garden space in front of the school to a garden/learning area to be used by students.
The design of this space will facilitate student learning in the outdoors through the use of a berm for students to lean on, rundle stone to sit on, and a platform for teachers to use to give instruction.
This project has been several years in the making, with students from various grades involved in the planning process. Students helped to design the space, to identify materials that would be appropriate for use in the classroom, and to fundraise for the project. Ground breaking on this space will begin in the spring.
“It is very important for students to be comfortable in their learning atmosphere, and TEPF is happy to support this innovative Outdoor Classroom project!” explains Din Ladak, President & CEO of TEPF.
Many thanks go out to TEPF, who has supported this project from its inception. This grant of $500 will be used towards materials and labour for the project and will be presented to the school on November 8.
Inquiries about the outdoor classroom or how to be involved may be directed to the school office.
