Peter Lougheed School Mural
The Educational Partnership Foundation (TEPF) Funds Large Scale Mural at Brand New Middle School
Calgary, AB- Students in Peter Lougheed School are undertaking a new artistic endeavor.
Students and staff have begun a mural that will be representing Peter Lougheed, a former premier of Alberta and the schools namesake.
Peter Lougheed School was opened in the fall of 2016 in the community of Saddleridge and is a school of students in grade 5 to 9.
The mural initiative has been organized by a group of students from grade 5-8. They have planned the endeavor so that each student in the school will have an opportunity to paint a portion of the mural.
The mural will represent many of Peter Lougheed’s achievements, for example, his commitment to athletics and academics. The mural is Pop Art inspired. Pop art is an art movement that emerged in the mid-1950s, its art based on modern popular culture and the mass media.
The Peter Lougheed School moto is “Make Your Mark” in honor of the lasting impression former premier Lougheed left on this province. Through this task, students will get the opportunity to “Make Their Mark” by literally making their mark of the wall. Without the generous support of The Educational Partnership Foundation, a project of this scale would never have been possible. “Peter Lougheed was a great man and great leader, and TEPF is very proud to support this project in his honour” says Din Ladak, President and CEO of TEPF.
Due to funding, students will have the opportunity to create this mural and document the process, so that we may design an online document that showcases the large amount of work and community spirit that it took to develop such a project.
