Shaping the Future, One Trade at a Time: Summer Programs Open Doors for Alberta’s Youth

Every summer, The Educational Partnership Foundation (TEPF) does more than just teach trades—we change lives. This year, we’ve provided over 300 students across Alberta with the tools, skills, and confidence to step into the workforce through our Introduction to Trades courses.

“These courses aren’t just about training for jobs—they are about building futures,” said Barb Simic, TEPF’s President and CEO. “Seeing our students gain skills and confidence, and witnessing the pride they take in their accomplishments reminds us why this work is so important. The ripple effect of these programs touches not only the students but their families and communities. We are creating opportunities that will impact generations.”

Whether it’s learning the precision of ironworking, the craftsmanship of bricklaying, or the strength behind boilermaking, these students walked away not just with skills, but with the safety certifications and knowledge that will serve them throughout their careers, giving them a strong foundation for the future.

This summer, nine programs and 14 classes took place across Tsuu’tina, Calgary, Edmonton, and Paul First Nation, empowering young people to explore careers in trades that are essential to our communities. Highlights of the summer included courses like finishing trades at Tsuu’tina, ironworker, carpenter, electrical, and pipe trades in Edmonton, and boilermaker courses in both Calgary and Edmonton. On August 23, we closed our bricklayer course in Paul First Nation with a memorable ceremony that honored the hard work of our students.

And we’re not stopping here. As we look ahead, we are excited to kick off our new Hair and Esthetics program in partnership with the Tsuu’tina Nation this September, opening up even more opportunities for students to find fulfilling careers.

With 40 out of 45 cohorts completed so far this year, TEPF is continuing to grow, reaching more students, and expanding our programs. But we can’t do it alone.
