Kayak Capital Management Legends for Learners Golf Tournament Raises $195,000 for Youth Trades and Literacy Programs

The 2024 Kayak Capital Management Legends for Learners Golf Tournament was a resounding success, raising an incredible $195,000 to support trades careers and literacy programs for Alberta’s youth. “We were very pleased by this year’s event, both in terms of the funds we raised in support of TEPF’s programs and in the experience we created for those who joined us,” said Shelley Forbes, TEPF’s Manager, Events and Programs. “This was the 23rd anniversary of the tournament and we’re delighted with how it went. The event kicked off with an exclusive VIP event the day before the tournament, featuring a moderated fireside chat with hockey legend Marty McSorley, followed by a live auction. This intimate and engaging event offered guests a rare chance to hear Marty’s reflections on his career and life, and to interact with him in a relaxed setting.  It was an unforgettable experience.  On the day of the tournament, 165 golfers came together for a fun and rewarding day on the course, all in support of TEPF’s mission. We owe a huge thank you to our title sponsor, Kayak Capital Management, whose generous support made this event possible, and to Marty McSorley, who brought his legendary energy to the entire event. We are also grateful to all our Legends, sponsors, golfers, and volunteers who made the day such a success. One of the most memorable moments was hearing from Riley and Justas, two inspiring past students who have benefited from TEPF’s programs. Their stories touched everyone in the room, and their well-deserved standing ovation was a testament to the impact of our work. We are incredibly proud of them and their bright futures ahead. I was moved beyond words by the overwhelming support we received. This event isn’t just about the funds raised; it’s about the lives we’re changing. When I saw the standing ovation for our student speakers, I knew—this is why we do what we do,” reflected TEPF’s President and CEO Barb Simic. “Every dollar raised helps create opportunities, and I am so proud of our TEPF team and our supporters for standing with us. Together, we’re building a brighter future for Alberta’s youth and I truly believe we’re just getting started.” This event supports both our Trades Careers and Literacy Programs, and plays a crucial role in ensuring students have access to the tools they need for success in both their education and careers.  We are incredibly grateful for the generosity shown by our supporters during this year’s tournament. Looking ahead, we invite you to be part of next year’s event—whether through donations, sponsorship, or volunteerism.  Together, we can continue to change lives and build a stronger Alberta.
