IBM Canada Provides Great Opportunity for Young Female Students
IBM Canada is very excited about the upcoming “Hidden Figures” movie to be released in late December / early January. This movie shares a critical story of women in technology and the bias women faced in the 1960’s. Unfortunately, even in 2016, the numbers of girls staying in STEM related areas of study and women going into STEM careers is not increasing as it should (in some cases, the numbers are in fact decreasing). This is a movie and message we feel would be of value for girls of high school age to view. You will also see from these trailers and video highlights, that IBM and IBM technology played a key role in the mission as told in this movie. IBM Canada’s STEM 4 Girls initiative will be hosting over 1,000 girls in six different locations across Canada for a complimentary screening of the movie!
We are pleased to extend an invitation to female students from Stanley Jones/Alice Jamieson Girls’ Academy (Calgary Board of Education) to attend the Calgary complimentary screening of “Hidden Figures” to be held on January 11, at Scotiabank Chinook Theatre between 9am – 12pm local time. We will have up to 190 spots available on a first come first serve basis. Please pass this information to the appropriate people in your school(s) so we can start building a list of confirmed participants.
We are thrilled to be able to open the opportunity for high school girls to see this movie and participate in what we know should be thoughtful and educational discussions that arise as a result of seeing “Hidden Figures”.
