Fundraising During a Pandemic is Not Easy!

The last few months have meant many changes to our organization that have impacted our ability to host our 19th Legends for Learners Charity Golf Tournament.  While we postponed our tournament date, we faced the difficult news that hosting a live golf tournament is not possible during a pandemic.

“Not being able to hold our one and only annual fundraising tournament this year has made raising funds very difficult. We know that class closures will have an impact on students, and they will need our programs more than ever. Education is vital and foundational for children, our community and future generations,” says Barb Simic, president and CEO, The Educational Partnership Foundation.

In place of the tournament, TEPF has planned a variety of ways to raise funds including restaurant and golf packages tied to our virtual event, the Legends for Learners Fireside Chat & Party which will be held on September 21, 2020. We have a great line up of high-profile “Legends,” Canadian Football League, National Football league players and Olympians as guest speakers. In addition, there will be games, prizes, an on-line silent auction and a hashtag contest.

“We really need the support of the community right now,” says Barb adding, “We are happy to be able to come up with some fun alternatives, but the reality is the funds raised will be far less than what our live tournament has generated in past years.”

TEPF is grateful that some of our sponsors have stayed on for the event despite the change in plans. They are making a difference and will help us help the 700,000 Alberta students we reach each year.

Currently, TEPF is working to ensure that our educational programs are ready for delivery. Our Director of Programming, Trades Careers, Terrence Patrick is meeting with our trades partners and developing the required processes and procedures.

Our Reading… Give it a Shot! program is still available to families and students directly as we get ready to launch the literacy program to schools and communities in September.

While we are experiencing challenges during this pandemic, we are pleased to be able to offer an exciting and fun virtual event, fundraising packages, on-line silent auction as well as contests and prizes.
