I am thrilled to bring the second edition of TEPFnews to you! The Educational Partnership Foundation (TEPF) looks ahead to finish off the 2022 year strong, and we have so many exciting updates to share since our last edition.
On August 8th, we hosted the 21st Anniversary of our Legends for Learners charity golf tournament. The weather was perfect and our Legends and golfers had a wonderful time at Valley Ridge golf course. Read on for more details about the event, our incredible fundraising total, and the 2023 tournament date!
With the 2021-2022 school year wrapped up, we are happy to share that our Reading… Give it a Shot (RGIS), Books for Kids (BFK), and Trades Careers (TC) programs continue to reach thousands of youth across the province. Over 31,000 youth were motivated to read with RGIS, over 2,600 books were given to high-needs schools through BFK, and TC had nearly 130 participants.
Read on for other exciting updates on TEPF, and enjoy this edition of TEPFnews.

21ST ANNUAL LEGENDS FOR LEARNERS TOURNAMENT:
The 21st Annual Legends for Learners charity golf tournament, hosted on August 8, 2022 at Valley Ridge golf course, was a record-breaking year, raising over $162,000 in support of TEPF and our programs! We’d like to thank our Legends, volunteers, and golfers for helping make this event a tremendous success.
At our 2022 Legends for Learners tournament, we had two Trades Careers student participants share about their experiences in our program. One of those students, Jaze, from Paul Band First Nation,
was kind enough to record her story. Check out the video above to hear from her!

RGIS DINOSAUR CARD LAUNCH:
In October, we hosted an incredible launch event to celebrate the new Dinosaur edition of our ‘Reading… Give it a Shot’ cards, sponsored by Johnson Insurance! Thank you to St. Martha School for hosting us and to our special guests from the TEPF Board of Directors, Calgary Police Youth Foundation, and City Council for joining us to support youth literacy.
We are excited to share this Paul Band short documentary! The video centres around our groundbreaking, 10-week, on-reserve skilled trades training pilot program at Wihnemne School on Paul First Nation over winter/spring 2022, in partnership with Building Trades of Alberta. This pilot saw eight unionized trades bring world-class, union trainers to the school to work with Indigenous junior and senior high students.
Check out the video above and learn more about this awesome program!

We are thrilled to profile one of our amazing trainers that help make our Trades Careers program possible. Meet Dion – IBEW 424 (Electricians) Instructor! Having been involved with the program for over two years, Dion has been a Red Seal and Master Electrician since 2002. We asked Dion a few questions about our program and what keeps him busy outside of work!
What are some of your favourite things to do outside of work?
Spend time with my young kids, golfing, boating and going to the mountains.
What is your favourite aspect of the TC program?
That it introduces kids to an alternative to university upon graduation.
You spend 4 years building wealth and knowledge instead of accumulating debt.
Do you have a memorable moment or student story from your time
with the program that you’d like to share?
Nothing in particular, but in 2021 we had 10 students sign up for the program
and they all got job placements that summer.
What advice would you give to a student interested in the program,
but are too scared or not sure if they should sign up?
If you’ve never had a chance to work with your hands and are worried you can’t,
this is the best place to try, there are no pre-requisite skills or knowledge required,
we start with the very basics.
