Books Build Futures Luncheon Raises Over $12,000 to Support Literacy Across Alberta

The inaugural Books Build Futures luncheon, hosted on April 29, 2025 at the Calgary Golf & Country Club in support of TEPF’s literacy programs, brought community leaders, literacy advocates, and supporters together for an afternoon of inspiration and impact. The event exceeded expectations, raising more than $12,000 to help ensure that every child can discover the joy of reading and the empowerment that comes with strong literacy skills.

The luncheon featured a dynamic panel discussion with Michelle Cameron Coulter (Olympic Gold Medalist & Speaker), Laureen Harper (Literacy & Community Advocate), Joanne Pitman (Chief Superintendent of Schools, Calgary Board of Education), and Emma Waller (Foundations Programs Coordinator, Calgary Flames Foundation), each offering thoughtful insights into the importance of literacy and the role it plays in shaping both individual futures and thriving communities. Their perspectives sparked meaningful conversation and left attendees energized about the work ahead.

TEPF is grateful to all attendees, partners, and supporters—including Jane McCaig, Kim Berjian, Aevitas Partners, and La Biosthetique—who helped make the inaugural Books Build Futures luncheon a resounding success.

Funds raised through the luncheon will directly support TEPF’s literacy programs, which aim to break down barriers to learning and open doors for children across Alberta. By investing in early literacy, TEPF continues its mission to create lasting, positive change for learners and the communities they call home.
